The United Nations welcomes the political and diplomatic moves towards a ceasefire in Sudan

January 4, 2024 (PEN) The cooperating spokeswoman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Florencia Soto Nino, said in response to a journalist’s question regarding the ongoing moves to coordinate civilian democratic forces and the expected meeting in Djibouti, that the United Nations has noted the meetings being held.

Florencia added that the United Nations welcomes any diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire, adding that they will continue to monitor the situation in Sudan.

During the past few days, political and diplomatic movements have taken place to work towards a ceasefire in Sudan, open safe corridors, and negotiate an end to the war that has been ongoing since April 15, 2023.
