The Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies calls for support for Sudan

30 June 2024 (PEN) The Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagan Chapagain, called for Sudan's worsening crisis not to be ignored, noting that emergency appeals have received only 18% meager funding.

He explained that the ongoing crisis has caused deteriorating humanitarian conditions, with the displacement of more than 9 million people and the threat of food insecurity and floods.
Chapagin pointed to the severe shortage of basic resources such as food, water and fuel, and the deterioration of the health care system.

The Secretary-General praised the efforts of Sudanese Red Crescent volunteers in confronting humanitarian needs, stressing the need for concerted international efforts to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict.
