African Development Bank approves grant to support Sudanese refugees in South Sudan

September 28, 2024 (PEN) The African Development Bank (AfDB) announced that its Board of Directors has approved a grant of $19.8 million to support the Sudanese Refugee Crisis Response Project in South Sudan. The total cost of the project is $22.23 million and aims to promote peace, social inclusion and resilience in communities hosting Sudanese refugees.

According to the bank’s statement, the project will be implemented between November 2024 and October 2026 in Maban, Jumjang, Aweil and Juba areas, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Ministry of Finance and Planning in South Sudan.

The project targets 26,180 households directly and is estimated to indirectly benefit 160,375 people, focusing on improving employment opportunities, restoring basic social services, and building the capacities of communities and refugees.
