US State Department calls on Sudanese army to participate in Geneva talks to end conflict

August 18, 2024 (PEN) The US State Department's regional spokesman, Samuel Werberg, called on Sunday for the Sudanese military to send a delegation to participate in the Geneva talks aimed at ending the conflict in Sudan.

In a special statement to Alhurra TV, Warberg explained that the negotiations called for by the United States focus primarily on achieving a ceasefire and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, and not on future political arrangements or the formation of the next government.

He added that the focus should be on improving the humanitarian situation, while the future of Sudan remains in the hands of the Sudanese people.
