Saudi Arabia calls on the international community to support Sudan

September 20, 2023 (Anatolia) Saudi Arabia on Wednesday called on the international community to support Sudan, stressing its continued efforts to reach a sustainable political solution there.

This came during a speech by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan during a meeting at the United Nations to discuss the crisis in Sudan, according to the official Saudi news channel.

The meeting came on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which began on Tuesday, in the presence of the heads of 150 countries and governments and is scheduled to last for a week.

The Saudi foreign minister heads the Kingdom's delegation to UN meetings.Ibn Farhan said at the beginning of his speech that "the Kingdom continues its efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan and calls on the international community to support its people."

The Saudi minister called on "international partners and donors to reduce the suffering of the people of Sudan," stressing the continuation of efforts to reach a sustainable political solution.
He stressed the importance of establishing safe corridors to deliver services to the Sudanese people, stressing that the Kingdom will stand with Sudan in the face of the difficulties it is experiencing.

Since mid-April, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in clashes that a series of truces have failed to stop, leaving more than 3,000 people dead, most of them civilians, and more than 5 million displaced and refugees inside and outside the country, according to the United Nations.

The Saudi city of Jeddah has hosted more than once negotiations between the two parties, the first of which was last May, and approved several truces that did not hold and the two sides accused each other of infiltrating it.
