The American Ambassador in Khartoum: The fighting in Sudan is meaningless and we are working to develop a process to resume the stalled political transition

September 16, 2023 (Pen) – "I was honored yesterday to meet with a delegation of African civil society leaders, including Sudanese activists from Khartoum and Darfur, at the State Department's Office of Conflict Operations and Stabilization," said US Ambassador to Khartoum John Godfrey.

According to the U.S. ambassador, the meeting discussed the ongoing conflict in Sudan and U.S. support for civilian initiatives to chart a new process for establishing a democratic transition to civilian rule.

Ambassador John added that their support for the Sudanese people is unwavering: to work to end this senseless fighting and to develop a process for the resumption of the stalled political transition, the ambassador said.

The conflict in Sudan since April 15 between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces has displaced at least 5,000 people and displaced millions of Sudanese from their homes, according to United Nations reports.
