The Red Cross expresses its sadness after the killing of two drivers and the injury of its employees in South Darfur

May 3, 2024 (PEN) The International Committee of the Red Cross announced that two of its drivers were killed in South Darfur, Sudan, by gunmen, and three other ICRC employees were injured. The team was on its way back from Libya to assess the humanitarian situation of communities affected by armed violence in the region when the incident occurred.

The International Committee expressed its deep sadness and offered its condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the wounded. The committee stressed that its main priority is to support the people most affected by this tragedy, especially the families, relatives and colleagues of the victims.

As part of its call to address this unfortunate phenomenon, the International Committee called for immediate protection for all civilians, including humanitarian and medical workers, stressing the need for them not to be exposed to direct attacks.
