The United Nations Population Fund warns of the repercussions of the war in Sudan on women and girls

February 20, 2024 (PEN) The war in Sudan has taken an unimaginable toll on women and girls, the United Nations Population Fund said, adding, “The world cannot turn a blind eye.”

The Fund stated that 6.7 million people are at risk of gender-based violence in Sudan.

He added that Sudan is the largest internal displacement crisis in the world, with 9.05 million people internally displaced, representing 13% of all internally displaced people in the world.

The Fund said it continues to ensure the uninterrupted provision of life-saving health and protection services, including clinical management of rape, to Gezira State.

He also explained that safe spaces have been created for women and girls in internally displaced persons sites, to provide psychological and social support and information.
