British Guardian: People's lives are in danger because of the UK's failure to expedite Sudanese asylum requests

The British Guardian newspaper said that the latest figures for the British Home Office showed that the total number of asylum seekers in the United Kingdom awaiting a decision reached a record high, reaching 172,758. As of 31 March, there were 5,010 Sudanese principal applicants awaiting a preliminary decision on their asylum claim – 3,966 of whom had been waiting for more than six months.

It reported that refugee organizations and British MPs had said the situation was "unacceptable", warning that lives were at risk as a result.
