The Norwegian Refugee Council calls on parties to the conflict to respect civilians and ensure aid access

March 10, 2024 (PEN) The Norwegian Refugee Council issued a warning about Sudan’s situation during the month of Ramadan this year, stressing that it will not be the same as in previous years. 8.1 million people have been forced to leave their homes, 18 million people are suffering from hunger, while countless people have lost loved ones as a result of the conflict in the country.

The Council appealed to the international community to support Sudan at this difficult time, stressing the importance of parties to the conflict respecting the rights of civilians and ensuring that life assistance reaches those who need it.

This warning comes in light of the continuing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, and the escalating need for humanitarian aid and international support to help alleviate the suffering of the population affected by the ongoing conflict since mid-April last year.
