The Sennar Observatory calls for rapid intervention to save the displaced people of Sennar

July 11, 2024 (PEN) The Sennar Human Rights Observatory launched an urgent humanitarian appeal to all humanitarian organizations and relevant parties, calling for rapid intervention to contain the crisis suffered by thousands of civilians fleeing the war in Sennar State towards Gedaref State.

The Observatory pointed out that thousands of displaced people, the majority of whom are women and children, are suffering from hunger, disease, and lack of medicine, in addition to cold and heavy rain, with a lack of appropriate shelter. There are also hundreds of families stranded on the roads leading to Gedaref and Kassala states, in light of the lack of transportation and safe passages. In addition, large parts of Sennar State suffer from outages in communications and electricity networks, further exacerbating the humanitarian situation.
