Displacement from Sudan raises international concern. The United Nations calls for funding

February 22, 2024 (PEN) The United Nations World Food Program confirmed that about 50,000 people have fled Sudan and settled in Ethiopia since the conflict in Sudan began on April 15 last year.

The program stated that it provided high-energy biscuits to families in Metema who were seeking shelter, stressing the need for funding to continue providing life-saving support to refugee families.

The Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, Jan Egeland, confirmed that the war in Sudan is destabilizing the entire region and migration may lead to more conflicts.

Yan called on parliamentarians and world leaders to realize that the Sudan crisis is one of the biggest disasters in the world. Adding , "If it is not dealt with, people will flee north to the Mediterranean."
