IOM: Floods in Sudan Displace More Than 117,000 People

August 17, 2024 (PEN) The International Organization for Migration reported that heavy rains and floods that swept Sudan between June 1 and August 12, 2024 led to the displacement of approximately 117,835 individuals, distributed among 23,567 families, from various Sudanese states.

The organization said that between 6 and 12 August 2024, the Displacement Tracking Matrix recorded 31 additional displacement incidents, increasing the total number of displaced people to approximately 96,465 individuals (19,293 families). The floods destroyed or partially damaged approximately 32,611 buildings.

The organization indicated that these figures are considered preliminary estimates, as work is currently underway to verify the details and update the data.
