UNICEF: Hundreds of vulnerable children were safely transferred from the orphanage in Khartoum

UNICEF said in a press release that 297 children have been safely transferred from the Maigoma orphanage in Khartoum to a safer location in the country.

“The safe transfer of these incredibly vulnerable children to a safer place is a ray of light in the midst of the conflict in Sudan and that millions of children remain vulnerable across Sudan, threatened by fighting, displacement and after-effects,” said Mandeep O’Brien, UNICEF Representative in Sudan. To provide life-saving services - their lives and futures are being put at risk by this conflict every single day.”

UNICEF has stated that there are more than 13.6 million children in urgent need of life-saving humanitarian support, the highest number ever recorded in the country.
