UNICEF issues a warning: Malnutrition crisis threatens the lives of children in Sudan

March 4, 2024 (QNA) The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned that hundreds of thousands of children in Sudan are at risk of malnutrition, which threatens their lives.

The UN organization stated in a statement on the (X) platform that “peace is what the children of Sudan need most now,” noting that it, in cooperation with its partners, provides life-saving nutrition and health packages for children and pregnant women.

UNICEF previously called for the collection of $840 million to help more than 7.5 million children in Sudan this year, but expressed its regret that the funds collected in previous appeals were insufficient.

Half of Sudan's population, about 25 million people, need humanitarian assistance and protection, while more than 1.5 million people have fled to the Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia and South Sudan, due to the ongoing war in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces for ten months.
