Pope calls for truce and ceasefire in Sudan and the world

December 10, 2024 (PEN) Pope Francis, the Pope of the Vatican, called on Sunday for a global truce and ceasefire on all fronts of armed conflicts on the occasion of "Christmas", stressing the importance of working for peace in light of the ongoing human suffering in conflict zones.

"Let us continue to pray for peace: in tormented Ukraine, in the Middle East, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, and now Syria, in Myanmar, in Sudan, and everywhere where people suffer because of war and violence," the Pope said in a statement carried by Italian media.

The Pope also called on governments and the international community to make strenuous efforts to achieve a ceasefire and reach Christmas celebrations in an atmosphere of calm and peace.
