The World Food Program confirms the worsening hunger crisis in Sudan

February 12, 2024 (PEN) The World Food Program confirmed that, in less than a year of conflict in Sudan, it is now recording the largest displacement crisis in the world.

The program stated that 9 million people in Sudan were forced to leave their homes, while 1.7 million people left for neighboring countries.
The World Food Program added that the hunger crisis is worsening, affecting 18 million people during the harvest season.

UNICEF spokesman James Elder indicated that more than 700,000 children in Sudan are likely to suffer from the most serious forms of malnutrition this year.

There has been a conflict in Sudan since mid-April last year between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces, which led to a catastrophic deterioration in the humanitarian situation.
