Blinken confirms that the ongoing conflict has resulted in war crimes and crimes against humanity

January 2, 2024 (PEN) US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that as a new year begins and Sudanese celebrate the 68th anniversary of Sudan's independence, the Sudanese people are increasingly suffering due to the conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces.

Blinken stated that the conflict has resulted in war crimes, crimes against humanity, serious food insecurity, and large-scale displacement.

A year ago, the United States welcomed a political process and joined the Sudanese people in the hope that they would be able to restore their democratic transition.

Sudan is now suffering from one of the largest humanitarian crises and displacement in the world due to the decisions of the warring parties. Women and girls are raped or live in terror of sexual violence amid lawlessness and impunity.

The Secretary also stressed that the United States continues to stand with the Sudanese people and will work to end the conflict so that next year the Sudanese people can begin to achieve the peace, security, and prosperity they deserve.

It is noteworthy that since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan on April 15, 2023, humanitarian crises have worsened catastrophically, according to international reports.
