UK Ambassador for Human Rights: There is no military solution. Every day that the parties to the conflict fail to accept this fact.

13 September 2023 (Pen) – Britain once again condemns the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for dragging Sudan into a totally unjustified war, completely ignoring the wishes of the Sudanese people, UK Ambassador for Human Rights Rita French said during a UN Security Council session.

Rita French also stated that the targeted and indiscriminate use of force against civilians, particularly in Khartoum and Darfur, is appalling.

The United Kingdom, together with its international partners, would do everything in their power to bring to justice all parties involved in those heinous crimes.

Rita French said thousands had died, 4.8 million people had been displaced and half the population needed humanitarian aid. "So, it challenges the belief that with this unprecedented need, both sides make it very difficult and bureaucratic to deliver life-saving supplies to people they claim to want to protect."

Ambassador Rita French also stated that there is no military solution. Every day that the parties to the conflict fail to accept this fact, silence their weapons and negotiate a permanent ceasefire is further proof that this is a war for power, ego and greed, destroying the rights and lives of the brave people of the Sudan.

Addressing the President, Rita French said, "The world is watching the horrific events taking place in Sudan, especially in Darfur." The United States will take every step possible, however long it takes, to ensure credible investigations and accountability that finally address the impunity enjoyed by those who have claimed to lead Sudan for decades.
