Greenfeld and Perello urge the warring parties to seize the opportunity of the Swiss talks to end the conflict

July 24, 2024 (PEN) The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that the United States is committed to achieving peace in Sudan.

Greenfeld called on Al-Burhan and Hemedti to accept the invitation of US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, for ceasefire talks in Switzerland on August 14.

She pointed out the need to work honestly to end the war and the “horrific” suffering it brought to the Sudanese people, as she put it.

For his part, Tom Perello, the US special envoy to Sudan, called on the warring parties to seize the opportunity to end the fighting, continue improving humanitarian access to the Sudanese people, and work for Sudan’s future.
