Martin Griffiths directs emergency funding to Sudan to address the humanitarian crisis

February 20, 2024 (PEN) The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, announced the release of $100 million from the United Nations Emergency Response Fund to support humanitarian crises in seven countries in Africa, the Americas, and the Middle East.

The Fund allocated $20 million to address the large displacement resulting from the ongoing conflict since April 15 of last year in Sudan.

Other amounts were also allocated to help the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Syria, Chad, Niger, Lebanon, and Honduras.

“The new momentum of funds will help sustain life-saving humanitarian support to people facing the world’s worst crises,” Griffiths said. “It is a reminder of the critical role of the Emergency Response Fund in a time of massive needs and persistent underfunding of humanitarian appeals.”
