McCain praises the international commitment to support Sudan and alleviate the suffering of 28 million people

April 18, 2024 (PEN) Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, expressed gratitude that the world has come together to provide financial support to Sudan and its neighbours. McCain noted that the commitment to provide $2.1 billion to address critical humanitarian needs demonstrates strong international solidarity.

McCain added that this support is very vital, as 28 million people in the region suffer from extreme hunger. She stressed the need for continued support to provide the necessary assistance to these people.

McCain thanked France, Germany, and the European Union for their leadership and efforts in organizing and strengthening the support provided to Sudan and its neighbors, expressing her appreciation to all parties that pledged to provide assistance.
