Emergency Lawyers: Women in Sudan suffer from the tragedies and violence of war

8 March 2024 (PEN) Peace and safety must be the priority for Sudanese women, the Emergency Lawyers Group said.

On International Women's Day, the group stated that women in the country suffer from the tragedies of war and its violence, which leads to their dispersion in shelters, noting that the use of sexual violence as a weapon of humiliation and enslavement constitutes the ugliest form of war.

The group added that hundreds of thousands of women are turning to non-traditional professions to secure their livelihood, due to the suspension of schools and universities, noting that mothers and children suffer from a lack of health and educational care.

According to the Emergency Lawyers Group, ending the war, securing urgent humanitarian aid, and ensuring protection for women and children requires rapid action to achieve peace and stability in Sudan.
