Director of the World Food Program: Sudan is now facing a forgotten crisis

April 2, 2024 (PEN) The crisis in Sudan, South Sudan and Chad will become the largest hunger crisis in the world, said the Executive Director of the World Food Programme, Cindy McCain, adding , “It is a crisis that has been forgotten now.”

She stated during a media interview that Sudan no longer receives the attention of the international media, while the fighting has not stopped, food is not available, and there is no access to those in need, noting that it is a combination of a perfect storm.

McCain added that with 2.2 million people seeking refuge in neighboring countries, especially Chad, the program faces a lack of funding and the ability to feed refugees crossing the border, and to be able to reach Sudan from the western and southern sides and across the north.

She also pointed out that, as humanitarian organizations, they must enable people to obtain food, expressing her hope that nothing worse will happen.
