An American official appeals to open the border with Chad to save children

April 4, 2024 (PEN) The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that malnutrition among young children in Sudan is among the worst prospects.

She added during a session of the UN Security Council that there were reports that hundreds of boys under the age of eighteen were forced to join the Rapid Support Forces in many cases, where they face the risk of hunger.

She also stated that cholera, measles and malaria have spread in Sudan, adding that the parties to the conflict continue to obstruct humanitarian aid across borders and lines of contact.

During her briefing to the UN Security Council, she called on the Sudanese Armed Forces to fully reopen the border with Chad, especially the Adre border crossing, and to allow relief agencies to provide aid across borders and conflict lines and reach 14 million children in urgent need of life-saving aid.
