UN official saddened by killing of aid worker amid escalating violence in Sudan

November 23, 2024 (PEN) The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, revealed that Sadiq Andosa, a staff member of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan, was killed in an airstrike that targeted a market in the city of El Fasher.

Fletcher, who arrived in Port Sudan, said the attack had left many victims, expressing his deep sorrow over the death of Andosa and standing by his family, which included his wife, seven children, mother and friends.

The UN official added that Andosa's death highlights the great suffering faced by civilians, including aid workers, amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan, stressing that the people of Sudan deserve a better future away from violence.
