Kalima camp is witnessing widespread malnutrition and diseases among children

May 22, 2024 (PEN) The General Administration of Displaced Persons and Refugee Camps in Sudan reported that a humanitarian disaster had occurred in the Kalma camp in South Darfur, where 66 children died within one month due to malnutrition and a lack of medicines for children. Cases of polio and all other childhood diseases also appeared as a result of the lack of vaccination for an entire year.

The administration indicated that 38 elderly people died during the same month in Kalma camp, in addition to 6 deaths among pregnant women as a result of lack of food. She stressed that the health conditions in the camp are deteriorating in an alarming manner, which increases the suffering of the displaced people who live in very difficult conditions.

The administration appealed to the United Nations, its organizations and all the world to respond quickly to these humanitarian appeals and bring the necessary aid to the camps for the displaced in South Darfur.
