The Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees launches an appeal to stop the violent escalation in Darfur

June 3, 2024 (PEN) The official spokesman for the General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees, Adam Rijal, confirmed the escalation of the tragic humanitarian situation in the Darfur region, especially in the city of El Fasher in North Darfur state. Men described the events taking place there as war crimes, crimes against humanity, and collective punishment imposed on civilians.

Men stated that the ongoing fighting threatens the lives of thousands, as they live in tragic conditions and face the risk of starvation as a result of the siege and lack of basic resources. He stressed the need to stop the fighting immediately, and open humanitarian corridors to allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need.

Rijal pointed out that the horrific humanitarian conditions faced by the population in Darfur require an urgent and immediate response from the international community and concerned parties. Calling for addressing this humanitarian crisis and providing the necessary support to those affected who face hunger and daily suffering.
