The Journalists Syndicate denounces the attack by gunmen belonging to the Justice and Equality Movement on a journalist in Port Sudan

April 29, 2024 (PEN) The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate expressed its strong condemnation and dissatisfaction with the brutal attack on journalist Azza Ira in front of the Social Insurance Tower in the city of Port Sudan. According to reports, Ira was attacked by three gunmen belonging to the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), led by Jibril Ibrahim.

The statement indicated that the assailants verbally and physically assaulted the journalist, and also stole her car key in a violent manner, which led to her being subjected to a state of fear and threats.

The union confirmed in its statement that the efforts of some parties to impose the law of the jungle by exploiting the conditions of war currently taking place in the country will not work, and there must be a reckoning that will come, even if it takes a long time, as it put it.

In conclusion, the Syndicate affirmed its readiness to provide all forms of support and support to our colleague Azza Ira and to all journalists affected by acts of violence and threats in the exercise of their professional duties.
