Renewed clashes in Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp in southern Lebanon

September 10, 2023 (QNA) – Clashes resumed today in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon, using machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

According to the National News Agency, the security situation is tense in Ain al-Hilweh camp, and clashes remained sporadic until midnight, stopping for four hours to resume at dawn today, despite all efforts and contacts held at the highest levels and meetings held until late at night.

The clashes take place at the point of the western axis of the camp, the Hittin neighborhood of Jabal Al-Haleeb, and the sound of shells that crossed the borders of the camp to affect neighboring places, reaping more human and material losses and a greater rate of displacement of people from the camp towards safe places in the city of Sidon.

It should be noted that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, during a phone call with Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, discussed yesterday the developments in the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp located in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon.

During the call, Abbas stressed his keenness to achieve calm in the camp and address matters in accordance with Lebanese law, and in coordination with the Lebanese state, noting that he issued strict instructions in order to achieve a complete and comprehensive calm in the camp from all parties.
