US: Restrictions hinder delivery of humanitarian aid in Sudan

November 6, 2024 (PEN) U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello on Tuesday expressed deep concern that Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission continues to block the delivery of emergency relief assistance throughout the country.

Perillo said on the X platform that the Humanitarian Aid Commission, affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces, prevented 520 relief trucks out of 550 from leaving Port Sudan between August and October, which hindered the delivery of essential life-saving supplies to several Sudanese states.

Perillo pointed out that 6.4 million people have not received food, medicine, and emergency supplies due to these restrictions, calling on the Transitional Sovereignty Council to direct the Commission to allow aid to exit Port Sudan and distribute it throughout Sudan.
