Doha announces upcoming visit to Burhan

September 6, 2023 (Anatolia) The Qatari Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday evening an upcoming visit by the President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to Doha.

This came according to the spokesman for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Majid Al-Ansari, according to what was quoted by Qatari media, including the channel "Al-Jazeera".

Al-Ansari said Burhan was "conducting a tour to a number of countries and Qatar is one of his stops", without specifying a date, but unofficial media reports say it will take place on Wednesday.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman denied knowledge of the existence of "a mediation request directed or will be directed to Qatar," but renewed Qatar's position calling for a halt to the war and a ceasefire in Sudan, according to the same source.

If Burhan visits Doha on Wednesday, Qatar will be the third country in Burhan's foreign tours in about a week, starting with Egypt and then South Sudan.

Since mid-April, the army and the Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in clashes that a series of truces have failed to stop, leaving more than 3,000 people dead, most of them civilians, and more than 4 million displaced and refugees inside and outside the country, according to the United Nations.
