Sameh Shukri: We seek a sustainable ceasefire in full respect for Sudan’s sovereignty

September 24, 2023 (pen) Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said before the 78th United Nations General Assembly that Cairo has launched the process of a summit of Sudan’s neighboring countries with the aim of coordinating the efforts of the countries most affected by the conflict to resolve the crisis and mitigate its humanitarian repercussions.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister added, "We are seeking a sustainable ceasefire in light of full respect for Sudan's sovereignty and the preservation of state institutions. The mechanism of Sudan's neighboring countries continues to follow up its efforts and develop a vision for a sustainable political solution."

It is noteworthy that since the outbreak of the conflict on April 15 between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces, one million people have sought refuge in countries neighboring Sudan.
